How to Avoid Falling On The Ice: Tips from an Emperor Penguin

chiropractor near me how to avoid falling on ice

Lots of falls and injuries in Ottawa over the last 24 hours. Here are some tips on how you can walk on the ice to avoid falling and getting hurt.

  • Keep your weight forward and on your front foot
  • Keep your arms out by your side to help you balance  ***
  • Walk flat-footed and take short shuffling steps
  • Wear footwear that provides traction
  • Step down, not out from curbs ***
  • Keeps your knees slightly bent ***
  • Walk on snow or grass if possible ***

This was adapted from a news story on KLKN-TV in Lincoln Nebraska about a year ago.  I added the asterisks to the tips I feel are the best.

I spoke with a chiropractor near me and she reported the same thing as I noticed in my own Chiropractic clinic in Ottawa (Nepean really).  People are coming in with back pain and neck pain after falling on the ice. Aaack.

Stay on your feet!
